ACTIVATE YOUR CAPITAL ONE CARD AND SET UP YOUR PIN.

Your new Capital One® chip card and PIN will arrive separately in the mail. Your PIN should arrive a couple days after your card. When you have both, all you have to do is activate your card, securely and easily. Be sure to have your new card and PIN handy when you call – you’ll need both to activate.

  
Follow these steps to activate your card and set up your PIN:
  1. Call our automated activation system at 1-888-655-5646 from your home phone.
  2. You’ll be asked to enter information to confirm your identity, like your 16-digit credit card number and date of birth.
  3. Enter the PIN you were mailed.
  4. Choose your PIN. Either re-enter the PIN we sent or select your own unique 4-digit number.
    If you create your own PIN please remember:
    • You can’t use the same digit 4 times (e.g. 1111)
    • You can’t use 4 consecutive numbers (e.g. 1234)
    Plus, any PIN beginning with 0 may not work internationally so we recommend not using a PIN that begins with 0.
  5. Confirm your PIN. Re-enter your selected PIN one more time.
  6. Your card is now activated and ready to use!
  

Important!

You’ll need to sign for your first purchase. After that, use your PIN where chip cards are accepted.
