CHANGE YOUR PIN

Change your PIN after you’ve
activated your card.

Your new Capital One® card is chip-enabled. In fact, we’re adding chips to all of our credit cards to make our fraud protection even stronger! This site will help you activate your new card, show you how to use it when making purchases and it also lists the steps involved if you want to change your Personal Identification Number (PIN) after you’ve activated your card.

What’s a chip?

A chip holds data that, when used with a PIN, identifies you as the cardholder. Chips are much harder to duplicate, meaning your card is more secure. But, if a merchant isn’t set up to accept chip cards yet, your card still has a mag stripe on the back that can be swiped.

What’s a PIN?

Your PIN is a 4-digit code that you use when making a purchase – like the one on your debit card. Instead of signing a receipt you simply key in your unique number. You can use the PIN we send you or you can choose your own PIN.
